Twoish Months In!

Time flies when you have to actually work.

It's getting onto summer here and it's been bike to work season. It's super nice now that I only live 5ish miles away even if the path is really just a road shoulder. It's also nice it's not sweltering and you get that crisp, need-a-sweater air at night fall. The days are long now and the sun doesn't set till 9 PM.

Sean has tested NZ healthcare and has been thoroughly impressed at the efficiency of it all. He's finally getting super cured! Ruby is also on the mend and getting her old lady arthritis managed so hopefully when my two roommates get it together we can go on some real out of town adventures.

Some other neatish things

-Seeing the Clyde Dam which is actually built on top of a fault so it's actually a dam built in two pieces that can slide past each other if there's any seismic activity (not tested but it's a cool idea and hopefully it works).

-Planting native trees for work on Community Day. I got acquainted with manukas, ribbonwood, some kind of cabbage, and other good stuff that's supposed to help filter the cattle poo water going into Lake Hayes. Also someone augered through a rabbit which was kind of gruesome- but maybe it was already dead before that happened.

-Climbing with coworkers. I've never been much of a hardcore climber but I actually lead climbed something after like 4 years. Someone also decided to take a test fall which was very brave considering it was also my first time lead belaying in eons.

-Joining Kayak Club. It was a dream to get into the water again and get my uninhibited paddling on.

We also ended up volunteering our house for Friendsgiving. It'll be nice to justify its massiveness and host people again.

I am enjoying everyone's general ideas around the holiday. My british co-worker was getting super excited about frying a turkey, and the other one is super fascinated by the idea of marshmallows on top of sweet potatoes (or kumaras here). I've also been asked if this is when the Super Bowl happens. Most people's knowledge around the holiday seems to be attributed to "Friends" which I find absolutely hilarious.

Tomorrow's our work Christmas party and we will be on a boat going to an island on Wanaka Lake.

I failed to convince everyone the party is pirate themed.
